Yiiee-uupp. I am back. I had a hard drive failure that put me down and out for a bit but I am back for now. I will also do some 3d sculpting streams again too now that I am slowly setting everything back up. It was a right pain in the booty. I am also drawing in other medias again and I will post when I feel like it

Ranting about art monopolies!

I am so sick of monopolies on art stuff!!!!!!!! Art supplies are crazy expensive and usually for no good reason too. Pencils aren't too bad because normally you can get hem discounted thanks to sales and coupons (sometimes 75% off but usually only 40-50%) and there are a few brands to choose from. No I am talking about markers and art tablets.
Markers I swear are hard to find and then the prices are anywhere from 6-12 usd a marker. o I am not kidding. And there is so little variety for the alcohol based markers that you're wasting time trying to get a hold of any of them. And this is just to test the waters to see if you like it.
Now let us move on to digital art. I have been dying to really try digital art for years and try to do commissions on the side, but I can't. The reason? If you don't have thousands (and I mean that literally) forget it. The hardware itself (aka a graphic arts tablet) is bullshit expensive. For the shittist wacom tablet you can get it'll set you back at least 100 USD for something that might have been cutting edge ten years ago. For something the same size with only double the pressure sensitivity it'll set you back 250 usd. And that's for a small size. I mean barely worth it size with an active drawing area considerably smaller than any sketch pad I have ever seen. I looked at their most expensive cintiq and almost literally shit myself. I was horrified by how bad it really is. For 2800 USD you get barely double the resolution of a Intuos pro (the 250 usd on)), the same pressure sensitivity and pretty much the same everything. The only difference? It's basically an art tablet with a built in screen and is really big and heavy. But seriously for more than 11 times the price it better be loaded with features.... but it's not. What the actual fuck? In literally almost four years nothing wacom has put out has actually improved!!! Their crap is over priced piles of shit! And its about the only shit you can find on the market!!!
Software is also important for digital art but holy shit! I couldn't afford anything for graphic arts if I sold my kidneys and my liver!! 700+ USD for 90% of the programs I see. Photoshop? Yeah that'll be your firstborn child plus a kidney in annual fees for the creative cloud bs you need. I mean really? Do you need to charge such absorbent amounts for niche software??? Zbrush crazy pricey, mudbox will cost your soul, maya is expensive, photoshop is a load of crap, and the list goes on and on.
How can I test the waters if testing the waters means having to sell most of my major organs just to get something that's absolute junk!!!
